I believe all human life has inherent value. This includes those yet to be born and expectant mothers. Access and availability to an abortion may differ from state to state, but overall, abortion remains legal. While I continue to be pro-life, solely focusing on legislation to ban abortion access has proven to be less than feasible. We need to find solutions that would prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place, such as allowing a wider range of over-the-counter birth control choices and not limiting sex education to abstinence.
I also believe that it is time to end the death penalty. Since 1973, 166 death row inmates have been exonerated. The ability to prove your innocence or to have others prove it for you should not be taken away via execution. While most people sitting on death row have been justly convicted of a crime, failures of the justice system do happen. Sparing death row inmates from execution, even if the majority are guilty, is worth it to save the few who are innocent.
